The story behind the touch screen - the whimsy of a young university teacher

Only 10 years ago, touch screens were still a distant and unfamiliar concept to most people. Now basically we are using touch screens, and we can know the information we need by just tapping on the icons with our hands. I remember when I first came into contact with it, it felt fresh, interesting, high-end and high-end, very good. However, who can think that today, 7 years later, with the popularization of smart devices, touch screens have become an indispensable part of our lives. So, how did all of this happen? I read an article in the book a few days ago that was about touch screens. It was very interesting. Here I will share with you:
The whimsy of a young university teacher
Although the touch screen has penetrated into all aspects of our lives, this technology always gives people a high-end atmosphere and high-end feeling. But few people know that Samuel Hirst, the American who first invented this technology, was just an ordinary university teacher.
In 1971, Hirst was also a young teacher at the University of Kentucky Research Foundation. At that time, it happened to be when the post-war baby boomers in the United States got together to go to college. The college was overcrowded and the workload of teachers increased exponentially. Facing the mountain of teaching work, Hirst decided to develop a new technology to improve work efficiency. As a result, he transformed his three basements into laboratories and workshops. After months of unremitting efforts, he finally developed a touch sensor. Hearst named it "AccuTouch", and its basic function is to digitally store image data by pressing the graphic abrasive tool on the sensing plate, or applying pressure on the sensing plate with a pen. In this way, this thing is more like a drawing board commonly used in the field of computer-aided design. But this invention really laid the foundation for the later development of transparent touch screens.
Three years later, Samuel Hirst finally developed a truly transparent touch screen. The American "Industrial Research" magazine rated the touch screen technology as one of the "100 most important new technology products." Soon thereafter, Samuel Hirst established his own company and cooperated with Siemens of Germany to continuously improve this technology.
With each passing day, the touch screen has developed to this day, and it is inseparable from our work and life. It adds a few more interesting things. When you take a photo, you can freely doodle on the touch screen. When you chat with people, just tap the touch screen. You can easily voice, these operations on the previous non-touch screen devices, you need to spend several operations on the keyboard. Most people's contact with touch screens first started with mobile phones, and now it has spread in various industries, such as industrial control, smart home appliances, vehicle terminals, mobile handhelds, medical and other fields. The replacement of buttons by touch screens is an innovation, and the popularization of touch screens is the future trend. I believe that the rapid development of touch screen technology will enable us to get more convenient and happy experiences!
